Welcome!

We are excited to have you with us!

Our objective is to not only to teach your child to play the piano but to help them build confidence and develop overall as a person throughout the process because there are many benefits to playing the piano.

Your next steps are below

If you have any questions email me at marlaynad@pianospeakacademy.com

1. Set a password for the Student Portal Account

You’ll receive an email from me with the subject line: “Website Login Information” where you’ll have to create a password for the account. Doing this step is very important as you will not be able to see nor pay the invoice for the One-Time Registration Fee without creating one.

The student portal is where we facilitate lessons, manage scheduling, payments and more.

For an overview on how to use the portal click this link: How to Use the Student Portal

2. Pay the registration fee

You will receive an email from me
with the subject line: “Your PianoSpeak Academy Invoice” which will contain the invoice for the One-Time Registration Fee. You must log into the Student Portal to pay the invoice.

3. Have the Student Intro & Tech Meeting

Reply to the follow up email
with a date and time. I want to meet the student(s) and find out from them what their desires are and find out their learning style so we can choose the best approach for them. We will also discuss best practices for conducting lessons over Zoom.

4. Review and Sign the studio Policy

The follow up email I sent you contains a link
for you to review and sign our our studio policy. It highlights key areas regarding how we run our studio. Its purpose is to aid us in making sure your relationship with us is smooth and orderly.

A copy of the policy can always be referenced here: Studio Policy

5. Get the Tools

  • Your Fingers!
  • A Piano or Keyboard (visit the Tools page for options)
  • Keyboard Stand and Piano bench (a table and regular chair will not be sufficient because they will not provide the correct posture). Visit the Tools page for options.
  • A Mobile Device (preferably a tablet or laptop; it’s helpful to have a screen larger than a smartphone screen).
  • A Stand for Your Mobile Device (I will need to be able to assess posture and positioning of your hands on the piano/keyboard). Visit the Tools page for options.
  • The Zoom App (meeting ID and password are sent prior to your lesson)
  • A Metronome (a beat keeper). You can download this in the App Store or Google Play store on your phone or mobile device. Search for “Pro Metronome”. For an overview on how to use the metronome app click this link: How to Use the Pro Metronome app.

6. Prepare for your first lesson!

REQUIREMENTS FOR VIRTUAL LESSONS

  • A “Can-Do” attitude!
  • A Mobile Device (preferably Tablet or Laptop)
  • A Mobile Device Stand
  • A High-Speed Internet Connection (at least 10 mbps). Visit fast.com to test your speed.
  • The Zoom App
  • A quiet space free from distractions
  • Adequate lighting
  • Punctuality (please sign on 5 minutes prior to lesson start time)

LESSON STRUCTURE

During our 1-on-1 sessions, we use a Lesson book to teach what will be learned and a theory book to reinforce what has been taught. Additional books may be added in order to improve dexterity and further aide in learning and mastery of the piano.

    • Click this link for high level overview of the course: Course Outline
    • Lessons are either 30 minutes or 60 minutes in length.
    • They are recorded and uploaded to the student portal.
    • At the beginning of the lesson, I like to take the first 1-5 minutes to ask our students to tell me “One Cool Thing” that they’ve done, learned or accomplished during the week.
    • You will receive text/email reminders 24 hours prior to each lesson start time.

SEMESTERS

  • A Winter/Spring Semester with a virtual recital at the end (May)
  • A Summer Semester (which is more flexible and works around vacations that may be taken)
